What is “trauma”?

Trauma is a distressing or disturbing experience that overwhelms an individual’s ability to cope. It can result from a single event, such as an accident or assault, or from prolonged exposure to adverse conditions, such as abuse or neglect. Trauma affects not only the mind but also the body and emotions, often leading to feelings of fear, helplessness, and a sense of being overwhelmed. The impact of trauma can be long-lasting, influencing one's mental health, relationships, and daily functioning. At Drew Singeisen Counseling, we understand the complexities of trauma and are dedicated to providing compassionate care and effective strategies to support your healing journey.

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy approach developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro to help people heal from trauma or adversities such as issues of abuse, bullying, domestic violence, grief/loss, attachment wounds, abandonment, PTSD, and many other complicated life issues. Check out this video to learn more about EMDR.
